From Conservatory to Garden Room
This single-storey rear extension replaces an existing conservatory and was designed to create a more comfortable, usable, and permanent living space. The new extension was carefully planned to feel like a natural part of the home. Its size and proportions were kept modest so that it complements the original building without overpowering it, while improving the overall connection between the house and the garden.
The extension features a simple low-pitched roof with rooflights, allowing natural light to enter from above and create a bright and welcoming space throughout the day. A large picture-frame window, finished with black powder-coated aluminium, provides clear views of the garden and acts as a focal point within the room. This helps strengthen the relationship between the indoors and outdoors.
Black timber cladding was chosen for the exterior to give the extension a modern and clean appearance. The dark finish allows the new structure to sit comfortably alongside the existing house, while the natural texture of the timber adds warmth and character.
A small pergola was also added next to the extension, creating a sheltered outdoor area and extending the living space into the garden. This enhances the usability of the outdoor space and creates a smooth transition between inside and outside.
