“A contemporary ecological refurbishment and extension.”

The project brief was to convert this drafty old house into a cosy contemporary home that was as maintenance free and as thermally efficient as possible. So particular attention was given to the external materials. Given that the external walls were cavity insulated but still didn’t perform well and the mock Tudor timber cladding required constant maintenance. We decided to strip off all unnecessary timber decoration and fix an external insulation with a through colour render finish. The windows were replaced with high quality thermally broken, powder coated aluminium double glazed units to give a modern sharp appearance.

The thermally inefficient conservatory was replaced by a well-insulated garden room with warm roof and lantern light. The new garden room and kitchen were designed to allow a seamless transition from one space to the other through to the sun terrace and landscaped garden.
