An ideal wheelchair-friendly extension to a traditional home design
One of the main problems with the existing house was three level changes from front to back. One in the kitchen, and the other in the Utility room. Access to the garden could only be achieved via a side door or through the conservatory down a dangerously steep ramp. Our challenge was to design a scheme that allowed level access throughout. By changing the position of the utility room we created a large open plan wheel chair friendly kitchen/diner with views and access to the garden. We incorporated rise and fall cooking hob and sink, drop down ironing board and accessible storage space. The rear extension was constructed from matching reclaimed Imperial brick to blend with the existing building.
